Kayak Diver becomes a Kayak Fisherman
When I moved up here I knew I'd probably get involved in kayak fishing. I was interested in it down in Ft. Lauderdale but never really persued it as kayak diving was my sport of choice though I didn't do too much of it in my last year down there. After settling in down here I started to explore what the options might be. Well it turns out that Jacksonville may be one of the most prolific places on the planet for kayak fishing. The species and waterways and access to them is seemingly endless. Literally I couldn't explore all of them here in two lifetimes. I hooked up (so to speak) with a local kayak fishing club. The Jax Kayak Fishing Club isn't a formal club with regular meetings and such but they do have regular happy hours and meet up to fish and keep in touch through the forum which is very cool. Here's just a sampling of the places that are available for kayak fishing for inland saltwater. These are two places I've gone so far. Sister's Creek and Beach Blvd. The point is to see all the potential
And here's my first two fish I ever caught from my kayak. A seatrout and a flounder. HEY no one ever told me they had teeth!!!! I didn't learn that one the hard way but still
I got this guy just to those creeks to the north of the ramp that's labeled L2
I met up with several of the guys and girls at a recent happy hour which was great. As it turns out they were planning a camping trip out in the St. Augustine area next weekend. I signed up for this which really was no big deal as it is a county park called Princess Place Preserve which is right on the intercoastal. It should be cool. One of the guys had asked if anyone in the group has a smoker so of course I piped up and now it seems as if I'm cooking for the group (about 30 people) for the saturday night meal. Not a problem though. I'll bring the smoker and one of the other guy's is buying the pork butt so I'm making pulled pork. Shouldn't be a problem. Here's the Superbowl party:
And this was those pork butts pulled
So now that I'll be camping and I didn't have a tent that was the next issue. So I got what I think was a really good tent and I was right. I decided it was a good idea to set the tent up when I got it to know how to and also make sure I got everything. So the living room furniture got displaced for a moment or two and the tent went up. Anyway here she is:
So that's been it more or less. Next weekend I go camping with the club so I hope to have lots of pictures and stories for you.

Hey Glenn! Great post. Yum - that pork looks good. Can't wait to see the camping trip. Maybe you can come visit us and camp at Peace River this winter.
